AF by Kinetics is a fiberglass pad wire-tie hanger engineered as a noise stop isolator for wire-supported suspended ceiling systems. It can be used with acoustic ceiling tiles, also known as ACT ceilings, or with gypsum board ceiling systems where added mass and improved acoustic performance are required.
Acoustic Ceiling Isolation for ACT and Gypsum Systems
The AF hanger is designed to reduce the transfer of vibration and unwanted noise through suspended ceiling assemblies. It is especially useful where mechanical equipment, transformers, chillers, and other building services create high-frequency buzzing or audible vibration in ACT ceiling grids. Kinetics notes that AF-100 hangers are used to help stop this type of high-frequency ceiling grid noise.
Wire-Tie Ceiling Installation Support
AF hangers are typically used with resiliently supported ceiling grids. Kinetics installation guidance describes isolated ceilings supported by resilient hangers nominally spaced at 48 inches on center, with a grid generally formed using 1-1/2 inch black iron channel at 48 inches on center and furring channel at 24 inches on center. Where a plaster finish coat is used, furring channel spacing is reduced to 16 inches on center for added stiffness.
Durable Fiberglass Isolation Construction
AF hangers combine permanent inorganic Kinetics Fiberglass with a zinc-plated metal assembly, creating a durable isolator suitable for suspended ceiling noise control applications. The product uses a permanently resilient fiberglass isolator pad and is designed to maintain constant natural frequency across a wide load range. AF hangers are supplied fully assembled and ready for use.
