Product Description

KINETICS® MidTones Wood Diffusers combine natural hardwood aesthetics with quadratic residue diffuser theory to create broadband sound-diffusing wall and ceiling finishes. Designed for critical listening environments, MidTones helps distribute sound energy more uniformly across a space while preserving acoustic liveliness and improving listening clarity.

Acoustic Diffusion for Mid and High Frequencies
MidTones is engineered to provide a wide frequency range of uniform acoustical diffusion. Middle- to high-frequency sound reinforcement is achieved through diffuse reflections from the MidTones surface, helping improve sound clarity and uniformity throughout the listening area. Based on reduced-scale testing using the guidelines of AES-4id2001, MidTones is designed to diffuse sound in the 500 Hz to 5000 Hz frequency range, with actual performance varying by project conditions.

Quadratic Residue Diffuser Design
Each MidTones diffuser is manufactured as an 18″ wide hardwood assembly with sound-scattering wells of varying depths. The sequence of seven elevations is based on Quadratic Residue Diffuser theory and the work of German acoustician M. R. Schroeder, providing controlled scattering of sound wave energy for architectural acoustic applications.

Wall and Ceiling Layout Flexibility
MidTones assemblies can be installed side by side so the well sequence repeats across a wider acoustic treatment area. When the ribs are installed vertically, sound reflections scatter horizontally. When panels are laid out 90 degrees to one another in a quilt-work pattern, the system can scatter sound in two dimensions, both vertically and horizontally.

Hardwood Construction and Finish Options
MidTones Wood Diffusers are available in cherry, maple, oak, and poplar hardwoods. Finish options include unfinished, clear coated, stained and clear coated, and painted finish for poplar only. Standard dimensions are 18″ wide by 4-5/8″ deep, with lengths from 12″ to 96″. Custom extended lengths up to 120″ are available upon request, and matching endcaps or trim pieces for the top and bottom can be supplied as required by the design.

Project Use and Acoustic Balance
For acoustic consultants, architects, and contractors working on auditoriums, studios, lecture halls, and performance venues in the UAE, GCC, and MENA region, MidTones provides a refined wood acoustic diffuser solution that supports both acoustic performance and interior design. When used together with KINETICS® HighTones Diffusers, MidTones can help designers create a more uniformly balanced sound environment over much of the audible spectrum.
