Product Description

KINJOINT SSEJ-150F-SG Stainless Steel Expansion Joint with Rods

KINJOINT SSEJ-150F-SG is an engineered stainless steel bellows expansion joint with flanged ends and rod/control hardware designed to accommodate dimensional changes caused by thermal expansion and contraction in piping systems.

The flexible bellows element is manufactured from SST304 stainless steel. The SSEJ-150F is the published 16 bar flanged configuration, while the SG suffix identifies the version incorporating tie rods/control hardware.

The standard KINJOINT product data publishes a working-temperature range from −50°C to +450°C and ±25 mm axial movement. Dedicated SSEJ-150F-SG technical drawings are also available for ±50 mm and ±100 mm axial movement, allowing the product configuration to be selected according to calculated piping movement.

Kinetics Middle East supports consultants, MEP contractors, mechanical contractors, piping engineers and project teams requiring stainless steel expansion joints for UAE, GCC and wider MENA projects.

SSEJ-150F-SG Model Configuration

SSEJ-150F – 16 Bar Configuration

SSEJ-150F is the published 16 bar flanged model within the KINJOINT stainless steel expansion-joint range.

The November 2024 standard dimensional table covers SSEJ-150F sizes from DN32 to DN600, with larger sizes, movement requirements and working pressures available for technical review.

SG – Rod / Control Configuration

The SG suffix identifies the configuration incorporating rod/control hardware.

Kinetics identifies the hardware as tie rods in its construction table and describes tie rods as an option used to control movement. The same technical documentation refers to the finish of the associated components as “control rod & hardware.”

The approved Kinetics model-specific drawing must govern rod settings and permissible movement.

Axial Movement Configurations

±25 mm Standard Axial Movement

The current KINJOINT family datasheet publishes ±25 mm axial movement as the standard movement for the SSEJ-150F family.

±50 mm Axial Movement

Kinetics publishes a dedicated SSEJ-150F-SG ±50 mm axial-movement configuration with BS4504 PN16 flanged ends, 16 bar working pressure and a working-temperature range from −50°C to +450°C.

±100 mm Axial Movement

For applications requiring greater calculated pipe movement, Kinetics also publishes an SSEJ-150F-SG ±100 mm configuration, rated at 16 bar with BS4504 PN16 flanged ends and the same −50°C to +450°C working-temperature range.

The ±50 mm and ±100 mm drawings use different bellows arrangements according to size, so final overall length and bellows configuration must be selected from the applicable Kinetics technical drawing.

Applications

KINJOINT SSEJ-150F-SG stainless steel expansion joints are suitable for engineered piping systems requiring controlled accommodation of thermal expansion and contraction.

Typical applications include:

  • HVAC piping systems
  • Chilled-water piping
  • Heating-water piping
  • District cooling systems
  • Mechanical plantrooms
  • Building-services piping
  • Utility piping
  • Industrial process piping
  • Equipment and plant piping
  • Flanged mechanical piping
  • Long pipe runs affected by thermal expansion
  • Systems requiring ±25 mm, ±50 mm or ±100 mm axial-movement configurations

Final selection must be based on nominal pipe diameter, design and working pressure, operating temperature, calculated movement, process medium, flange specification, piping layout, anchors, guides and supports.

Features & Benefits

SST304 Stainless Steel Bellows

The flexible bellows element is manufactured from SST304 stainless steel to provide controlled piping flexibility.

16 Bar Working Pressure

SSEJ-150F is the published 16 bar configuration within the current KINJOINT range.

Wide Operating Temperature Range

The published working-temperature range is −50°C to +450°C.

Multiple Axial Movement Options

Standard product data publishes ±25 mm axial movement, while dedicated SSEJ-150F-SG drawings provide ±50 mm and ±100 mm configurations.

Rod / Control Hardware

The SG configuration incorporates carbon-steel rod/control hardware as part of the engineered assembly.

Kinetics’ drawings warn that control units must be used to protect the expansion joint from excessive movement where piping is not properly anchored.

Internal Sleeve

The standard construction incorporates an SST304 inner sleeve. Kinetics states that internal liners can protect the inner bellows surface from applicable erosion and flow-induced vibration.

Compact Thermal Movement Control

Bellows expansion joints provide piping flexibility in a compact assembly and reduce the installation space required compared with conventional rigid pipe loops where a metallic bellows joint is suitable.

UAE & Regional Technical Support

Kinetics Middle East L.L.C. is based in Dubai, UAE and supports expansion-joint technical selection and project requirements across the regional market.

Rod / Control Hardware – Important Engineering Note

Kinetics’ own documentation identifies the SG components as tie rods/control hardware, while its model-specific SSEJ-150F-SG drawings also publish defined axial-movement capabilities.

The Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association (EJMA) makes a technical distinction between true tie rods and limit rods: true tie rods restrain pressure thrust and prevent axial movement, whereas limit rods can permit a specified amount of axial travel.

For this reason, the SSEJ-150F-SG page should use Kinetics’ terminology “tie rods/control hardware” and rely on the approved model-specific Kinetics drawing for actual rod settings and allowable axial movement.

Anchoring & Guiding

Correct piping anchors and guides are essential for reliable metallic bellows expansion-joint operation.

Kinetics specifically instructs users to provide proper anchoring and guiding to prevent expansion joints from extending or buckling as a result of pressure thrust.

The SSEJ-150F-SG drawings additionally warn that control units are required to protect the joint from excessive movement where the piping is inadequately anchored.

The expansion joint, rod/control arrangement, anchors, guides and supports must therefore be treated as one engineered piping system.

Installation Guidelines

Before installing the SSEJ-150F-SG:

  1. Confirm the approved model is SSEJ-150F-SG.
  2. Confirm the nominal pipe diameter.
  3. Verify the 16 bar working-pressure requirement.
  4. Confirm the specified flange configuration.
  5. Verify minimum and maximum operating temperatures.
  6. Confirm whether the required movement is ±25 mm, ±50 mm or ±100 mm.
  7. Inspect the SST304 bellows for transport or handling damage.
  8. Inspect all rod/control hardware before installation.
  9. Maintain the approved control-rod settings shown on the project drawing.
  10. Install all anchors, guides and pipe supports according to the engineered piping design.
  11. Protect the bellows from impact, weld splatter and welding arc strikes.
  12. Avoid torsional twisting.
  13. Do not force the expansion joint to compensate for unintended piping misalignment.
  14. Do not exceed the approved pressure, temperature or movement capability.
  15. Refer any site condition differing from the approved design to Kinetics Middle East before commissioning.

EJMA states that torsional twisting can reduce bellows life or cause expansion-joint failure and should be avoided.

SSEJ-150F-SG vs SSEJ-150F-SG-ES

SSEJ-150F-SG

SSEJ-150F-SG is the stainless steel expansion-joint configuration with rod/control hardware and no external shroud.

SSEJ-150F-SG-ES

SSEJ-150F-SG-ES adds an external protective shroud around the bellows.

Kinetics uses the ES suffix for the external-cover option, while SG denotes the rod configuration.

For the shrouded version, view the KINJOINT SSEJ-150F-SG-ES Stainless Steel Expansion Joint.
