Mass Loaded Vinyl Barriers for Airborne Noise Control
KINETICS® KNM Mass Loaded Barriers are flexible, limp mass vinyl barrier materials designed to reduce airborne noise transmission by enclosing, separating, wrapping, or lagging noise sources. They can be draped around equipment, suspended between noisy equipment and quiet areas, or applied directly to equipment casings, piping systems, ducts, machinery covers, doors, and wall assemblies.

Flexible Acoustic Barrier for MEP and Industrial Applications
KNM Mass Loaded Barriers are suitable for mechanical rooms, HVAC ductwork, process piping, plant rooms, industrial equipment areas, OEM machinery, generator rooms, pump rooms, and building services applications. Their limp mass construction helps block sound transmission while remaining flexible enough for wrapping, hanging, or integration into acoustic assemblies.

Available Barrier Types and Weights
KINETICS® KNM barriers are available in multiple configurations, including KNM-B unreinforced loaded limp barrier, KNM-RB reinforced limp barrier with fiberglass screen, and KNM-C Clearview transparent barrier for applications where visual contact must be maintained. Standard surface weights include 0.50 psf and 1.00 psf options, with KNM-200B available as a 2.0 psf barrier material.

Sound Transmission Performance
KNM Mass Loaded Barriers are tested as free-hanging barriers under ASTM E90-09, with STC ratings listed from STC 21 for 0.50 psf barriers, STC 26 for 1.00 psf barriers, and STC 31 for KNM-200B 2.0 psf barrier material. Actual project performance depends on the full installation method, sealing, overlap detailing, supporting structure, and surrounding acoustic paths.

Specialized Lagging and Plenum Options
For ductwork, piping, and equipment housings, Kinetics KNM-100ALQ combines a fire-rated limp mass barrier with a decoupling quilted fiberglass lining to reduce sound transmission beyond mass alone. Kinetics also launched PR-KNM in 2026 as a plenum-rated mass-loaded vinyl barrier for return air plenums, ceiling cavities, duct wrap, ceiling crosstalk control, and isolation between equipment rooms and occupied spaces.
