Junior Estimation Engineer

Job Overview

Kinetics Group is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Estimation Engineer to support cost estimation, material planning, and technical documentation for sheet metal fabrication projects. Based in Umm Al Quwain, the role will assist with reviewing engineering drawings, preparing material take-offs and Bills of Quantities, developing nesting plans, analysing supplier quotations, and calculating manufacturing costs.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain practical exposure to sheet metal fabrication, steel manufacturing, acoustic products, and project estimation. The successful candidate will work closely with the estimation, procurement, production, and planning teams to support accurate quotations, efficient material utilization, and timely project delivery. Key Responsibilities

  • Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project requirements to support accurate cost estimates.
  • Prepare material take-offs, Bills of Quantities, and preliminary manufacturing cost calculations.
  • Assist in developing sheet metal nesting plans to improve material utilization and reduce fabrication waste.
  • Calculate material, labour, manufacturing, and subcontracting costs for sheet metal fabrication projects.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations for raw materials, components, and outsourced services.
  • Prepare commercial comparisons, cost analyses, supplier enquiries, and estimation documentation.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams to support material sourcing and purchasing activities.
  • Work with production and planning teams to confirm material availability and project schedule requirements.
  • Maintain accurate estimation reports, quotation records, technical documentation, and project files.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization, process improvement, and more efficient material planning.
  • Support the preparation and timely submission of competitive commercial and technical quotations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • One to two years of experience in estimation within a manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, or steel fabrication environment.
  • Practical experience preparing or supporting Bills of Quantities, material take-offs, cost estimates, and supplier enquiries.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, manufacturing methods, and fabrication terminology.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal nesting software.

Technical Skills
  • Understanding of sheet metal and steel fabrication processes.
  • Knowledge of material estimation, nesting, cutting, bending, welding, and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Competence in preparing BOQs, material take-offs, cost comparisons, and estimation reports.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills for calculations, costing, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Working proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Basic understanding of supplier quotation analysis and material procurement processes.

  • Familiarity with acoustic products such as acoustic louvers, sound attenuators, silencers, and acoustic enclosures.
  • Exposure to material planning, production coordination, or manufacturing scheduling.
  • Experience using sheet metal nesting or fabrication estimation software.
  • Previous experience working on projects within the UAE or GCC manufacturing sector.
