High-Frequency Sound Diffusion for Critical Listening Spaces
KINETICS® HighTones2 is a high-frequency wood diffuser designed to improve room acoustics by scattering reflected sound rather than absorbing it. It improves upon the original HighTones diffuser with a new 11-period well sequence, offering smoother diffusion and scattering performance. HighTones2 also incorporates Barker code to help reduce lobing characteristics, supporting more controlled sound dispersion in home theaters, studios, cinemas, and premium AV rooms.
Flexible Orientation for Acoustic Design
HighTones2 diffusers can be oriented horizontally, vertically, or in combined layouts to achieve the desired diffusion characteristics. This allows acoustic consultants, AV designers, architects, and contractors to tune wall or ceiling treatments according to room geometry, speaker placement, seating location, and acoustic design requirements.
Performance Range and Seating Distance
HighTones2 is designed for high-frequency diffusion, with a low frequency limit around 2,500 Hz. The high frequency limit is 17,200 Hz at 0° incident and 8,600 Hz at 60° off-axis. The minimum seating distance is only 7 inches, making the product practical for rooms where listeners may be positioned close to treated surfaces.
Design and Installation Options
HighTones2 can be used to tame first-order reflections or installed as monolithic wall or ceiling coverings to add more aural openness to a space. It is commonly used to enhance surround sound speakers at the rear of a room and may also be used in place of absorption when reverberation times are already low. The diffusers can be mounted on walls or ceilings, concealed under a stretch fabric system, painted, displayed in hardwood finishes, or used as stand-alone units in standard drop-ceiling systems.
Square and Plank Format Options
HighTones2 is available in Square and Plank configurations. The HighTones2 Square format is 2′ x 2′ x 1″ and can also fit into a standard drop-ceiling grid. The HighTones2 Plank format is 5-9/16″ x 1″ and is available in plank heights from 24″ to 96″. These options support flexible acoustic layouts for walls, ceilings, rear-room speaker zones, and design-integrated diffusion surfaces.
Wood Species and Finish Choices
HighTones2 Plank and Square pieces are available in Cherry, Oak, Maple, and Poplar. Finish options include unfinished, clear-coated, or stained/clear-coated surfaces. Painted finishes are also available with Poplar, giving interior designers and project teams flexibility to coordinate the diffuser with premium residential, hospitality, cinema, studio, and commercial interiors across the UAE, GCC, Middle East, and MENA region.
HighTones2 can be used to tame first order reflections, or as monolithic coverings to add more aural “openness” to the space.
Most commonly, HighTones2 diffusers are used to enhance surround sound speakers in the rear of the room, but can also be used in place of absorption when reverberation times are low.
HighTones 2 Diffusers can easily be mounted on walls or ceilings. They can be concealed under a stretch fabric system, painted, or displayed in many beautiful hardwood finishes. Stand-alone units also fit into standard drop-ceiling systems.
Take a look at the back of these diffusers and you’ll see how easy it is to properly arrange them during installation. Arrows help to orient each piece for custom Barker code sequencing (planks) and directionally (square diffusers).
