Mass Loaded Vinyl Barrier for Acoustic Noise Control
Kinetics KNM is a mass-loaded, limp vinyl barrier material used to reduce airborne noise transmission by enclosing, separating, or lagging noise sources. The barrier can be draped around equipment, suspended between noisy equipment and quiet areas, wrapped around process piping, or lagged directly to equipment casings. KNM is suitable for acoustic treatment in mechanical rooms, HVAC systems, industrial facilities, equipment enclosures, commercial buildings, hospitals, hotels, schools, data centers, and infrastructure projects.
How KNM Works
The limp mass construction of KNM helps block sound transmission by adding a dense, flexible acoustic barrier layer. It is used where sound breakout, equipment noise, pipe noise, duct noise, or crosstalk between spaces must be controlled. KNM-AL variants include a reinforced aluminum foil facing on one side to improve mechanical strength, weatherability, appearance, and fire retardancy.

KNM Barrier Material Range
KNM is available in different material configurations including KNM-B, KNM-RB, and KNM-C. KNM-B is an unreinforced limp barrier material loaded with barium sulphate and available in 0.50 psf, 1.00 psf, and 2.0 psf options. KNM-RB is reinforced with a fiberglass screen and available in 0.50 psf and 1.00 psf options. KNM-C Clearview is a transparent, very limp, tough, water-clear barrier material used where visual contact must be maintained while reducing noise transmission.
KNM-100ALQ Acoustic Lagging Option
For pipe, ductwork, and equipment housing applications requiring more than mass alone, KNM-100ALQ combines a fire-rated limp mass barrier with a decoupling quilted fiberglass lining. It is constructed from rugged reinforced aluminized-faced mass-loaded limp vinyl bonded to a scrim-faced quilted fiberglass absorber/decoupler. This configuration supports noise control for process piping, pressure reducing stations, HVAC duct breakout noise, mixing boxes, and equipment housings.
