Stud Wall Isolation Strip for Sound-Rated Partitions
Kinetics Wallmat is a molded fiberglass partition isolation pad designed to resiliently separate a sound-rated stud wall from adjacent non-isolated structure. It is applied continuously along the bottom and top plates of a stud wall wherever acoustic isolation is required, helping maintain the intended performance of sound-rated wall assemblies. Isolation is maintained with KAI anchor isolators, which keep fasteners decoupled from the framing and reduce unwanted structure-borne sound paths.
Controls Flanking Noise in Wall, Floor, and Ceiling Assemblies
Flanking paths can significantly reduce the effectiveness of acoustic construction, allowing sound and vibration to bypass otherwise well-designed partitions. Kinetics notes that sound flanking through a floor/ceiling assembly can reduce STC or IIC ratings by 10 points or more compared with non-flanked sound control construction. Wallmat creates a resilient break to help stop sound or vibration from flanking around a sound-rated assembly.
Engineered for Acoustic Wall Isolation Projects
Wallmat is frequently used with other Kinetics sound isolation products in high-performance acoustic wall systems. It is suitable for applications where resilient separation of stud walls from subfloors, ceilings, concrete decks, or adjacent framing is required. For concrete deck construction, Wallmat is recommended at both the top and bottom of stud walls.
Practical Installation for Site Conditions
Wallmat is supplied as easy-to-install, pre-cut isolation strips that can be field cut to length using a utility knife. Standard Wallmat isolation strips are 1/2″ thick x 48″ long, with 3″ width for 2×4 framing and 5″ width for 2×6 framing. Special widths can be provided for project-specific requirements, and optional coating is available for wet-area installations.
KAI Isolation Bushings for Resilient Anchoring
KAI rubber bushing assemblies are used at each anchor point through the top and bottom plates of the stud wall to maintain effective isolation. KAI-W isolation bushings are available for wood studs, while KAI-S isolation bushings are available for steel studs, with 16″ or 24″ on-center spacing options.
